Snows are looking to take on a Kia Light Vehicle Apprentice. This an exciting opportunity for an apprentice to work alongside qualified technicians where you will be fully trained in all aspects of maintenance and repair of light vehicles, from routine servicing to electrical fault diagnostics. Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Day-to-day tasks will always vary, but will normally include but not be limited to:
- Servicing
- Vehicle maintenance
- Observing and assisting technicians
- Car technicians will be expected to see whether components and systems are secure and working proper
The car technicians' jobs fall into three categories:
- Servicing - working to manufacturer servicing guidelines to ensure the vehicle is running at optimum performance
- Maintenance - replacing parts that have wear and tear before they fail
- Repair - diagnosing the reason for vehicle failure and fixing the problem

Course contents
- Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop. Segregate waste for disposal or recycling. Comply with industry environmental legislation.
- Demonstrate due regard for own safety and that of others in the workshop and minimise risk of injury and vehicle damage.
- Carry out fundamental tasks associated with removal and replacement procedures on a vehicle.
- Obtain diagnostic and repair information.
- Interpret diagnostic information and use electrical wiring diagrams to determine system serviceability.
- Use a range of diagnostic equipment.
- Follow recognised diagnostic procedures, logical diagnostic sequence and apply advanced diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to establish faults.
- Report faults using company procedures and recommend suitable further actions.
- Follow recognised repair procedures to complete a wide range of repairs including those which involve complex procedures, or in depth knowledge.
- Test the function of repaired and fitted components.
- Adhere to business processes and complete documentation following workplace procedures.
- Use ICT to create emails, word-process documents and carry out web based searches.
- Complete a range of services and inspect and prepare a vehicle to the required quality standard for handover to the customer.

Your training plan
- Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (Light Vehicle) Apprenticeship Standard
- Not only will apprentices be working and be trained within the garage, they will attend a Kia-approved college to work towards - achieving their Level 2 Autocare and Level 3 Standard in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
- A skills coach will visit at least every 28 days as part of a close support network to ensure that apprentices are both enjoying and succeeding in their course
- Functional skills in English and maths if required
An Apprentice’s training includes:
- Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (Light Vehicle) Apprenticeship Standard
- Vocational-related qualification (Technical Certificate)
- Electric Vehicle Training
- Before the Standard is met, all apprentices must hold a certificate that meets the EU’s 2014 F-gas regulation.

Blended on/off-the-job training and location to be confirmed.

Essential qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in:
- English and Maths (grade 4/C or above)
