Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Duties include:
• Assist senior barbers with client appointments, learning essential grooming techniques and customer service skills
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the workspace, ensuring a welcoming environment for clients
• Practice haircutting, styling, and grooming under supervision to build practical skills and confidence
• Participate in team meetings and training sessions to develop knowledge of industry standards and trends

- Apply safe, hygienic and effective methods of working and infection control.
- Identify and report problems which cannot be dealt with to the relevant person(s).
- Use working methods that promote environmental and sustainable working practices.
- Carry out front of house duties to support the barbershop business.
- Promote yourself, your organisation, products and services via a variety of social channels.
- Complete and maintain client records in accordance with legal and organisational requirements.
- Use communication and etiquette that suits and is appropriate to the barbershop image and style.
- Maintain the client’s privacy, comfort and welfare during a barbering service.
- Work as part of a team to support the barbershop.
- Advise clients (new and regular) pre, during and after service on the services, products available and maintenance.
- Use a range of products, tools and equipment, adhering to legal and organisational requirements for safe use and storage.
- Identify contraindications or limiting factors that are likely to affect or influence the service using observation and appropriate questioning techniques.
- Carry out a consultation, examine and analyse the hair, skin and scalp.
- Prepare the hair for barbering services.
- Cut hair using a range of barbering cutting techniques, to create a variety of looks, taking account of factors influencing the service and the steps required to achieve the desired look.
- Restyle hair by changing the length, bulk or shape to achieve a significant/clear different style.
- Create basic outlines and detailing in hair.
- Design, create and maintain a variety of facial hair shapes and looks.
- Style and finish hair to create a variety of barbering looks.
- Provide shaving and facial massage services safely.
- Evaluate the results of the service.

Your training plan
You will be training towards a Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals (Barbering) qualification, supported by Kleek Apprenticeships and the team at your home salon.
The Level 2 qualification in Barbering includes; consultation, shampoo/condition and treating the hair, cutting hair using a range of techniques, style and finishing hair.
You do not need any formal qualifications to start the apprenticeship, however, you will need to have passed Level 1 Functional Skills (or equivalents) in English and maths and have taken tests for Level 2 to complete it. Kleek Apprenticeships will help you gain these Functional Skills alongside the apprenticeship with our bespoke learning modules.

Once you have successfully completed the program you will be submitted for your End Point Assessment. The EPA is an assessment of all the knowledge, skills and behaviours you have learned throughout your apprenticeship, it confirms you are ready and competent in the career path you have chosen. These assessments have been designed and developed by employers in the hairdressing industry to reflect the daily work of a hairdresser. This makes them very sought after by employers across the industry.

After this apprenticeship
After you have completed your Hair Professional Level 2 (Barbering), you will be a fully qualified barber and will be able to work independently within your salon.
