100% of tips given by clients, commissions on retail products personally sold/recommended & staff discount on products.

32 hours between Tuesday - Saturday, a mix of 10am - 6pm or 12.15pm - 8.15pm, Saturdays are 9.15am - 5.15pm. Plus you will spend a minimum of 6 hours per week in college.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Under the mentorship of our Creative Director, Jamie, an industry expert well known & respected for his innovative techniques, consistently investing in his own professional development; including his work with the Fellowship for British Hairdressing, recently completing his Colour Masters with Schwarzkopf & currently his Assessors Accreditation; & his commitment to education, our Apprentice will gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, inspiring environment, working alongside four other passionate hairdressers as well as two other hard-working Apprentices. You’ll learn the fundamentals of hair styling, cutting, colouring, amongst other aspects of the profession, & customer service, all whilst assisting stylists, maintaining salon upkeep & interacting with guests. Our Apprentice programme is thoughtfully structured to ensure you’re fully supported in developing your skills, creativity & confidence.

We’re looking for someone who is eager to learn, attentive, reliable, excited about building an excellent future for themselves & ready to bring a positive energy to our salon team! This position requires the utmost dedication & a genuine passion for the hair industry & creativity. If all of this is a true fit for you, we’d love to hear from you, duties will include;

  • Salon preparation & maintenance; set up stylists’ stations with required trollies, tools & products; clean stations, mirrors, styling chairs, tools & other items regularly; sweep floors, take out rubbish/recycling, keep on top of cleanliness of sunbeds & cubicles throughout the day.
  • Hair preparation; shampoo/condition/treat/scalp massage clients’ hair, apply/remove colours/foils under stylists’ direction; mix colour/lightener under supervision; towel dry, blow dry & prep hair as needed.
  • Front desk & support; greet clients, assist with check-in & help make them comfortable - hang coats & offer refreshments; handle phone calls for appointments, inquiries & follow-ups; meticulously manage client records & update appointment schedules thoroughly.
  • Product & retail knowledge; stock & organise hair care & colour products for in-salon use & retail; learn about products/colour benefits, ingredients & usage to enhance personal knowledge & sales skills; assist clients with product recommendations.

  • Adhere to legal and organisational requirements for the safe use of products, tools, materials and equipment.
  • Apply safe, hygienic, and effective methods of working and infection control, while completing hairdressing services.
  • Use communication and etiquette that meets industry requirements, suits and is appropriate to the organisation.
  • Maintain the client’s confidentiality and comfort (modesty, privacy) at the start and during the service.
  • Advise clients (new and regular) pre, during and after service on the maintenance of the look, complementary services and retail products available in the salon.
  • Promote yourself, your organisation, products and services via a variety of social channels.
  • Carry out wider salon duties to support the salon business (e.g. services, bookings, payments, retail, upselling and sales).
  • Use a range of products, tools, equipment used in Hairdressing services in accordance with legal organisational requirements.
  • Complete and maintain client records in accordance with legal and organisational requirements.
  • Work as part of a team to support the salon businesses.
  • Use working methods that promote environmental and sustainable working practices.
  • Carry out a consultation, examine and analyse the hair, skin and scalp and complete relevant industry tests (e.g. hair classification type and characteristics tests).
  • Identify (question/observation) any contraindications or limiting factors that are likely to affect or influence the service.
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp.
  • Dry and finish hair using a range of techniques to create a range of looks, that meets the intended shape, direction, balance and volume agreed with the client.
  • Use current setting and dressing techniques to create a range of looks that meets the intended shape, direction, balance, and volume agreed with the client.
  • Cut hair using a range of technical skills and cutting techniques to create a range of looks, considering weight distribution, cutting angles, balance and degree of graduation, and the natural growth patterns of the hair, length of the hair ( club cutting, scissor over comb, clipper over comb, texturising, freehand, thinning, layering and razor cutting).
  • Restyle hair to create a personalised short or medium (above the shoulder) length hair cut, changing the shape, length and style hair using a range of cutting techniques.
  • Complete a range of hair colouring and lightening services to change the depth and tone using current colouring techniques (e.g. freehand techniques, woven highlights or lowlights, root re-touch, half head and full head application, temporary, semi-permanent, demi- permanent, quasi-permanent, permanent colour and lighteners).
  • Evaluate the results of the service.

Your training plan

One on one training one evening a week with senior team, quarterly in house training with Schwarzkopf, international guest artists invited into the salon for a training day once a year & external education with Schwarzkopf both online & at their training academy in Manchester.

You will also attend college each week to train with other apprentices and be visited in the workplace by a college instructor-mentor who will complete observation, professional discussions and mentor you through the apprenticeship course.
