Summary
We are seeking to appoint an Accounts Assistant Apprentice to join our Finance team at Thomas Telford School to assist with all aspects of Finance at Thomas Telford and across the Multi Academy Trust. We are seeking someone who has a keen interest in finance, is highly motivated, hard-working and works to a high degree of detail.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- Assist with all aspects of purchase and sales ledger.
- Support with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Preparing and posting journal entries.
- Assisting with maintaining the Fixed Asset register including posting depreciation and disposals.
- Assisting with the day-to-day banking tasks, including raising payments and preparing bank reconciliations.
- Analysis of financial data and assist with preparation of reports.
- Support with gathering information for the Internal and External Audits.
- Adhering to the Financial Procedures in line the Academies Trust handbook.
- Supporting the Finance Manager and senior colleagues as required.

Course contents
- Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
- Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
- Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
- Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
- Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
- Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
- Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
- Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
- Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Your training plan
Apprentices will attend classroom-based training sessions at Severn Financial Training.
An assessor will meet with the apprentice every 6–8 weeks.
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- 3 other GCSE passes (grade 5 or above)
- English (grade 5 or above)
- Maths (grade 5 or above)
- any subject minimum of 2 passes (grade Grace C/BTEC Merit or above)
