Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

The ideal candidate will be willing to work across five days including weekends. Positivity and flexibility is important. The main duties are:

  • Mucking out and field maintenance – picking up waste, fencing, weed control etc
  • Turning out/brining in horses
  • Feeding, grooming,
  • Changing rugs, tacking up
  • Exercising horses and ponies both ridden and in-hand
  • Lunging
  • Assisting with general running and managing yard duties
  • Assisting with clients events
  • Assisting with lessons i.e. leading

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

  • You will gain a level 2 apprenticeship qualification in Equine Groom & also an Emergency First Aid qualification. 
  • You will need to attend our Duchy Stoke Climsland campus one day a week, with the rest of your working week in the workplace.

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4/C)
  • Maths (grade 4/C)

Other requirements

The apprentice will need suitable transport to work and college. There is a regular bus from Exeter – Cullompton which stops outside. The role is on a split shift basis to coincide with the stable duties so having your own transport is best.
