Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
The position will offer the suitable candidate the opportunity to work in one of several departments within the group, together with the opportunity to study for an apprenticeship qualification - International Freight Forwarder Specialist Level 3. This will be coupled with possible future career advances. This interesting role involves handling day to day shipments from origin to delivery, on behalf of one of our largest contract customers.
When fully trained the suitable candidate would be able to complete the following:
- Daily import operations from Turkiye, China, Pakistan and Bangladesh to the UK to include permission to ship, delivery bookings, customs instructions on CIC and invoicing
- Daily cross trade operations from Turkey, China, Pakistan and Bangladesh to Germany, Belgium, Ireland and Switzerland to include permission to ship, delivery bookings, customs instructions to agents and invoicing
- Keeping tracking reports up to date and analysis of line performance/ eta to amend delivery bookings
- New business areas this year from Cambodia to the UK
- Arrange call-off delivery instructions received from specific contract customers
- UK customs brokerage for clients prepaid business
- Ad-hoc haulage with quality check services we offer for specific contract clients in Turkey and Belgium

Course contents
- Select freight forwarding services based on customer requirements, taking into account country specific factors, delivery times and modes.
- Use generic or bespoke ICT systems in order to enter and monitor data on importing or exporting goods.
- Book, plan and monitor international shipments, using manual or ICT systems, in accordance with the rules and regulations that apply to that area of the world and to the goods consigned.
- Prepare a customs declaration to a national standard, or give custom clearance instructions to a third party.
- Use data systems to submit the information required by customs authorities as part of the management of the international movement of goods.
- Produce freight costings and invoices in line with Incoterms, customer profile or sales contract.
- Identify and source data from customers, systems or colleagues.
- Identify and resolve problems in line with responsibilities.
- Create and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Adapt communication based on the situation and the audience.
- Identify problems outside of limits of responsibility and escalate within company policy.
- Communicate in writing, preparing communications on technical matters.
- Communicate with others verbally, including internal and external customers.

Your training plan
International Freight Forwarding Specialist Level 3 - Ocean Pathway
- Upon successful completion you will achieve Level 3 Apprenticeship qualification in International Freight Fowarding
- Training will be conducted at regular intervals on-site with your Specialist Coach
- Training schedule has yet to be agreed upon, further details will be made available at a later date

Essential qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in:
- English (grade 4)
- Maths (grade 4)
