Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
We have an opportunity to join a well-established, specialist manufacturer and distributor, renowned for crafting high-quality scooter canopies, storage covers, garages, and bags for scooters and wheelchairs. With over 40 years of experience, we pride ourselves on producing durable products with exceptional workmanship. As a Level 2 Sewing Machinist Apprentice, you will be trained and supported to master sewing machinist operations, ensuring that products meet our exacting quality standards.
Key Duties:
- Prepare materials, accessories, and machinery for sewing operations.
- Execute sewing machinist tasks to meet product specifications, ensuring quality and efficiency.
- Conduct quality assurance checks, rectify issues, and prepare products for the next production stage.
- Maintain a safe and sustainable workplace environment and perform basic equipment maintenance.
- Record production data and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Your training plan
Working towards a Level 2 Sewing Machinist apprenticeship standard, the apprentice must:
- complete training to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) outlined in this apprenticeship’s standard
- complete training towards Functional Skills qualifications in English and mathematics in line with the apprenticeship funding rules
- compile a portfolio of evidence
End-point assessment gateway
The apprentice’s employer must be content that the apprentice is occupationally competent. That is, they are deemed to be working at or above the level set out in the apprenticeship standard and ready to undertake the EPA. The employer may take advice from the apprentice's training provider, but the employer must make the decision. The apprentice will then enter the gateway.
The apprentice must meet the gateway requirements before starting their EPA.
The apprentice must:
- confirm they are ready to take the EPA
- have achieved English and mathematics qualifications in line with the apprenticeship funding rules
- submit a portfolio of evidence for the interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence

The assessment methods can be delivered in any order. The result of one assessment method does not need to be known before starting the next.
This EPA has 3 assessment methods.
- Assessment method 1 - observation with questions
- Assessment method 2 - interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
- Assessment method 3 - multiple-choice test
The result from each assessment method is combined to decide the overall apprenticeship grade. The following grades are available for the apprenticeship:

Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- Maths and English (grade 3 - 9 or equivalent (A* - D))
