Summary

KSS is looking for a highly engaged and proactive individual, who wants to develop a career within fundraising. Supporting the Community Fundraising Team and wider Income Generation Team, you will develop excellent stewardship and customer service which will help engage wider support for our live saving service.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Provide excellent stewardship and customer service to supporters (particularly in Kent) via phone, email or potentially face to face, in order to offer advice and guidance to maximise fundraising income
  • General communication to supporters - responding to all communications in a timely and professional manner, ensuring that the system is updated without delay and that relevant stakeholders are informed as required.
  • Supporting Fundraising campaigns (particularly in Kent) by making onboarding calls and sending relevant resources or packs
  • Arranging and facilitating volunteers to support on community events or cheque presentations and delivering any necessary briefings to assist with their duties on the day.
  • Arranging and facilitating our store collections and looking at volunteer support to maximise these opportunities
  • Supporting fundraisers with presentations and assemblies to engage new or existing schools or groups
  • Assisting with thanking process for fundraisers
  • Act as a key liaison within the Community Team, ensuring that Community Fundraisers and Community Fundraising Manager are supported as required
  • Understand and keep up to date on all relevant fundraising regulations and best practice guidelines – as set out by KSS’s internal processes, policies and procedures and ensure that these are adhered to in all practices.
  • Propose opportunities for KSS to raise awareness and grow its brand awareness and income, in line with KSS strategy.
  • Work with other members of the Income Generation team to support their activities to drive income and acquire new supporters such as Trusts and Foundations, Corporate and Individual Giving appeals.

  • Uses the most appropriate communication method for the message through the use of good questions and listening techniques
  • Identify and apply pragmatic solutions using a range of methods to maximise value to the organisation
  • Use data management (compliant with data protection regulation) and analysis to produce and present evidence to support, validate and/or review fundraising activity to different stakeholders, such as analysing the effectiveness of a fundraising event
  • Evaluate and make unsupervised decisions quickly based on the current situation or environment
  • Control, monitor and analyse expenditure and/or financial fundraising transactions to maximise spend on the organisation's charitable cause, including Gift Aid
  • Use a variety of information sources (compliant with data protection regulation) to identify individuals, groups or organisations who can potentially provide effective support for the organisation
  • Plan and prioritise time to ensure fundraising activities are managed well and fundraising potential is maximised
  • Build relationships and identify, engage, sustain and satisfy the on-going needs of supporters and stakeholders by building rapport and trust, and resolve conflicts constructively
  • Identify and apply appropriate technological solutions to improve the effectiveness of processes, procedures and development of fundraising activity
  • Demonstrates self-awareness and recognises their own emotions and their impact on self and others.
  • Adapt and tailor presentation style and technique to meet the needs of the audience
  • Build a diverse network both internally and externally
  • Articulate and communicate the mission, goals and activities of your organisation to influence others to engage with your cause, applying appropriate fundraising techniques such as networking, handling objections, negotiating and making an ask

    • Your training plan

    The fundraising apprenticeship programme will be run through JGA who deliver a course that is delivered by experts within the Charity sector. Blending learning with day to day work responsibilites the course will help grow your knowledge around data management, financial analysis, planning and prioritising activities, identifying technological solutions and building a diverse network.

    The fundraising apprenticeship is a 10 module programme developed by members of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising’s National Convention Committee. The course is delivered through half-day seminars which take place online twice each month, combined with further learning activities.

    Other requirements

    The applicant will be asked to support KSS with the running and staffing of fundraising events. As a result the successful applicant may have to undertake weekend and out of hours work, which they will get back with Time off in lieu.
