Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

In this role, you'll be responsible for ensuring that learning and development initiatives contribute to and influence improved performance at the individual, team, and organisational levels. Working alongside seasoned Learning & Development (L&D) professionals, you'll develop the skills and knowledge to become a trusted advisor, aligning learning needs with the strategic ambitions and objectives of the business.

As an L&D Business Partner Apprentice, your key responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting in-depth analyses to identify organisational skills gaps and learning needs, aligning them with the business's vision, mission, and strategic priorities
  • Presenting a range of innovative learning solutions to senior stakeholders, gaining their buy-in and support
  • Developing comprehensive organisational development, learning, and succession plans to address skills, resourcing, and talent requirements
  • Designing and implementing learning interventions, monitoring their progress and effectiveness - Fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement, using communication campaigns and various learning methods
  • Managing learning and knowledge transfer, facilitating collective and social learning experiences
  • Constructing and managing learning and development budgets, identifying cost-saving opportunities
  • Building strong relationships with business managers, peers, and external partners to deliver successful learning solutions
  • Demonstrating excellent facilitation skills, using a range of questioning and listening techniques to drive discussions and decision-making

Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll develop a deep understanding of adult learning theories, change management methodologies, and the latest trends and best practices in the L&D field.

You'll also gain valuable insights into your organisation's business strategy, key performance indicators, and the role of technology in supporting effective learning.

You will gain a vast range of useful experiences and skills whilst working towards the Level 5 Learning and Development Business Partner apprenticeship standard. As a working student, your focus is to complete your studies in your 20% off-the-job time by learning and developing your skills, knowledge and behaviours to work towards successful graduation. You will be set objectives and goals by your training provider and manager to support your studies.

You will build your skills over a 24-month period, starting in July. These skills will help you develop personally and professionally. Your apprenticeship will be made up of classroom/virtual-based training to cover knowledge, on-the-job training at your Amazon-based location, online learning as well as mentoring from our experienced team members.

Course contents
  • Work as an learning and development business partner or consultant across the whole organisation or key functions and relevant stakeholders as appropriate, to build insight into existing levels of capability against future requirements, identifying organisational skills gaps and risks. This may include an organisation’s sustainability strategy or exposure to the UK Government’s policy for net carbon zero emissions by 2050, for example, ensuring a just transition for those with legacy skills into the new green economy.
  • Use a range of techniques to obtain an initial brief from internal stakeholders, and investigate and analyse data to validate the need for a learning intervention.
  • Present a range of relevant and innovative solutions, logically and with credibility, to gain buy-in from senior stakeholders.
  • Develop an organisational development, learning and development and succession plan that addresses gaps and fulfils skills, resourcing, talent, and future leadership needs in the partner and business area, accounting for changing internal and external environment, business and learner needs. This may include an organisation’s sustainability strategy or exposure to the UK Government’s policy for net carbon zero emissions by 2050, for example, ensuring a just transition for those with legacy skills into the new green economy.
  • Initiate the design of interventions and monitor implementation.
  • Foster and develop an embedded culture of learning and continuous improvement (e.g. through using communication campaigns).
  • Facilitate collective and social learning using innovative technological solutions.
  • Influence management at all levels to collaborate and take responsibility for learning initiatives.
  • Set up and manage action learning sets, coaching and mentoring programmes.
  • Ensure quality of learning and training delivery through providing feedback to colleagues to ensure continuous improvement of self and others.
  • Construct and manage an learning and development budget, project, intervention, including managing resources to effectively deliver.
  • Identify and analyse potential cost savings to ensure maximum value.
  • Effectively engage, negotiate and manage third party suppliers.
  • Build effective working relationships with business managers (using the language of the business), peers and other learning and development functions, together with relevant external organisations to deliver business results from learning and development plans and solutions.
  • Communicate confidently with people at all levels, including senior management.
  • Work with senior leaders to carry out succession planning, organisational development and talent pipeline plans. This may include an organisation’s sustainability strategy or exposure to the UK Government’s policy for net carbon zero emissions by 2050, for example, ensuring a just transition for those with legacy skills into the new green economy.
  • Build rapport and demonstrate the use of language patterns to facilitate and encourage discussions, debate, learning and decisions.
  • Employ a range of questioning and listening skills to generate brainstorming, discussion and debate, learning and decisions.
  • Effectively manage challenging learner and group behaviours.

    More training information

    • As well as learning key skills, you will be working towards the Level 5 Learning and Development Business Partner apprenticeship standard.
    • Training will be delivered in a mix of remote and face-to-face sessions.
    • Each week Apprentices will be allocated time away from their day to day roles to work on their Apprenticeship studies.
    • You will spend approximately 80% of your working week learning from skilled members of the team whilst supporting learning on the job.
    • The apprenticeship will run for 24 months, at the end of which you will be eligible to apply for higher roles in relevant teams within Amazon or anywhere in the industry.
    • This is the ideal opportunity to get valuable work-experience at Amazon, as well as gaining a relevant qualification funded by Amazon.
    • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)

    Other requirements

    This position will be based in a Corporate Office. We advise you to submit your application as soon as possible, as the roles will close once filled. We will be holding online assessments from November through to February, with assessment centres taking place between February and May.
