This vacancy is for an Apprentice Engineering Fitter based in Burnley. The broad purpose of the occupation is to produce complex high value, low volume components or assemblies in full or part, using machines, equipment or systems, to the required specification.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Proctor Process Plant is a family-owned business operating since 1983. We design and manufacture a complete range of industrial burner and heater systems, employing direct, indirect, infra-red and tube firing technology, in addition to supplying associated controls, instrumentation and ancillary equipment.

We are on the lookout for a new Apprentice Engineer to join our team in Burnley! This is an exciting opportunity to join an established team of Engineers and experience a range of different skills in Engineering as well as studying towards a level 3 apprenticeship qualification. You will be enrolled onto the Fitter Level 3 Apprenticeship and will work with our Training Provider, Training 2000, to gain the skills required to become a Mechanical Fitter.

You will be exposed to a wide range of engineering skills so this is a fantastic opportunity to learn and evolve as an Engineering apprentice. Pay can be reviewed after the first 3 months then every 6 months in line with performance. For those applying that are older than 18 we will meet national minimum wage, this can be discussed at interview.

  •  Open to working overtime (paid when required)

Course contents
  • Reading, interpreting and understanding the component or assembly specification, diagrams, drawings and work instructions.
  • Planning component or assembly task – materials, tools and equipment.
  • Preparing work area for component or assembly task; sourcing required resources, tools and equipment.
  • Carry out relevant planning and preparation activities before commencing work activity and know how to source required resources and interpret detailed drawings, specifications and job instructions.
  • Checking tools during and after task completion; identifying and reporting defects.
  • Measuring and testing, checking or inspecting component or assembly for example; use of micrometers, verniers, multimeters, voltmeter.
  • Problem solving; analysing the issue and fixing the issue where appropriate.
  • Applying improvement techniques; recommending or implementing solutions where appropriate.
  • Communicating with colleagues or customers (internal or external).
  • Completing component or assembly documentation for example job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation.
  • Reporting work outcomes or issues.
  • Restoring the work area on completion of the activity; returning any resources and consumables to the appropriate location and house-keeping.
  • Disposing of waste in accordance with waste streams; re-cycling, re-using where appropriate.
  • Operating within limits of responsibility.
  • Operating in line with quality, health and safety and environmental policy and procedures; identifying risks and hazards and identifying control measures where applicable.

    Essential qualifications

    GCSE in:

    • English (grade 4/C or above)
    • Maths (grade 4/C or above)

    Desirable qualifications

    • Science (grade 4/C or above)
