Summary

We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic individual to join us as an Apprentice Accounts/Finance Assistant. This apprenticeship offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced finance department and will support the finance team in various accounting functions and contribute to the smooth running of financial operations.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Processing Financial Transactions: Assist in processing invoices, payments, receipts, and expenses accurately and efficiently
  • Data Entry: Ensure all financial data is accurately entered into accounting software systems, maintaining up-to-date and correct financial records
  • Bank Reconciliations: Support the reconciliation of company bank statements, identifying and resolving discrepancies
  • Accounts Receivable & Payable: Assist in maintaining ledgers, including handling supplier and customer queries regarding payments and invoices
  • Payroll Support: Assist the payroll team with processing employee wages and ensuring payroll records are correct and up to date
  • VAT Returns: Support in preparing and submitting VAT returns in compliance with HMRC regulations
  • Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Audit Preparation: Help ensure all necessary documentation is available and accurate for internal and external audits
  • Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the finance team, including filing, scanning, and responding to inquiries

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Your training plan

    You will attend our Training Provider's Centre in Newcastle 1 day per week.

    GCSE in:

    • English (grade Grade 4 or higher)
    • Mathematics (grade Grade 4 or higher)
