Summary
You will gain valuable qualifications and hands-on experience that will equip you with the skills needed to become an outdoor instructor. As an Apprentice, you will be supported by our skilled and experienced team, who will provide you with a strong foundation of knowledge and skills needed for delivering and running fun and educational sessions.

Overtime if you work more than 40 hours in a week. After successful completion of the course, apprentices will see their salary increase to the national minimum wage for their age bracket.

Throughout the 13-month course, you will be on a 40-hour work week contract. Working hours: 08.30 - 17.00, 8 hours per day on rota. Any hours over this will be overtime. You will be required to work some weekends throughout your contract.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- Assist with the preparation, setup and delivery of various outdoor activities, including sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding and land activities.
- Collaborate with the team to ensure that all activities are delivered in a safe, enjoyable and inclusive manner for participants of all abilities
- Create a warm, welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors, fostering a positive experience for everyone.
- Actively participate in training and development opportunities to gain relevant qualifications and enhance your professional skills.

Training
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Course contents
Your training plan
You'll experience a combination of in-house training, where you'll learn to conduct enjoyable and safe sessions, along with training aimed at achieving National Governing Body Awards. Potential qualifications include, RYA Powerboat Level 2, RYA Keelboat Instructor, RYA Dinghy Instructor, Paddle Sport Instructor, RYA First Aid and Nuco Outdoor First Aid.
Training will be conducted at our centre and will be a steady process throughout the duration of the apprenticeship. Most of the NGB training will occur at the beginning of the programme, giving you the opportunity to build confidence in leading your own sessions during our busier months.
You will be working towards your Level 3 Outdoor Activity Instructor Apprenticeship.

About this company
Cobnor Activities Centre Trust (CACT) is an independent charity offering accredited outdoor activities in Chichester Harbour. CACT provides a range of land and water-based activities, including sailing, paddling, and climbing, following RYA and British Canoeing pathways. The centre also runs inclusive programmes for individuals with physical and learning disabilities. CACT primarily supports young people who may not have access to such opportunities, promoting well-being, self-esteem and life skills through engaging, empowering activities.
