A fantastic opportunity has become available at The Bistro at Dunston Hall, Chesterfield. The apprentice will take part in duties such as; interacting with customers, taking orders, serving food, and helping behind the scenes.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Customer Service: Greet guests warmly, take orders, and provide menu recommendations. Ensure customers feel welcome and satisfied throughout their visit.
  • Food Service: Serve food and beverages quickly and accurately. Handle food and drinks with care, following all health and safety standards.
  • Cleanliness: Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including dining areas, counters, and restrooms. Assist with cleaning duties before, during, and after service hours.
  • Teamwork: Work closely with your fellow team members and kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations. Help with various tasks as needed to keep things running efficiently.
  • Cash Handling: Process payments accurately using our point-of-sale (POS) system. Handle cash, credit, and other payment methods with care.
  • Problem-Solving: Address customer concerns or special requests promptly and with a positive attitude. Assist in resolving any issues that may arise during service.

Course contents
  • Use a range of questioning skills, including listening and responding in a way that builds rapport, determines customer needs and expectations and achieves positive engagement and delivery.
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication skills, along with summarising language during face-to-face communications; and/or
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate communication skills, along with reinforcement techniques (to confirm understanding) during non-facing customer interactions.
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use an appropriate ‘tone of voice’ in all communications, including written and digital, that reflect the organisation’s brand.
  • Provide clear explanations and offer options in order to help customers make choices that are mutually beneficial to both the customer and your organisation.
  • Be able to organise yourself, prioritise your own workload/activity and work to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate patience and calmness.
  • Show you understand the customer’s point of view.
  • Use appropriate sign-posting or resolution to meet your customers needs and manage expectations.
  • Maintain informative communication during service recovery.

    The Apprentice will work towards achieving Customer service practitioner Level 2. 

    The Apprentice will train in the workplace and will receive one-to-one training and tutor visits every 4-6 weeks.

    Essential qualifications

    GCSE in:

    • English (grade A*-C or 9-4)
    • Maths (grade A*-C or 9-4)
