Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Your main salon duties will include:
- Helping to prepare the salon to receive clients
- Welcoming clients and visitors to the salon
- Helping to provide refreshments to clients and visitors
- Gowning up and preparing clients prior to treatment
- Shampooing and applying conditioner treatments
- Blow drying hair under supervision when requested
- Preparing equipment and materials for hairdressers use
- Tidying up and maintaining the image of the salon
- Refilling stocks of frequently used materials
- Helping to maintain a safe working environment
The apprenticeship will provide you with the following skills and knowledge:
- How to provide client consultations
- How to shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- How to style and finish hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
- How to cut hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
- How to colour and lighten hair using a range of techniques
- How to perm hair
- You will also develop industry behaviors which will allow you to work in the Hair and Beauty industry effectively.
To achieve the Level 2 Hair Professional you will achieve specific units and complete an end point assessment and practical exam. This qualification assesses your knowledge, understanding and skills and is designed to be assessed in your workplace.

GCSE in:
- Maths and English (grade 9-3 (A*-D))
