Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Are you looking to further your career in Agriculture? Do you have an interest in livestock farming? Then read on, as we have a fantastic opportunity for a Livestock Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship at Mount Folly Farm, situated in the South Hams on the beautiful South Devon coast.
We are looking for candidates with farm experience (desirable) or a qualification/Agriculture apprenticeship completed at Level 2.
This is great opportunity to grow a career in agriculture, as there are opportunities for permanent employment and further development following the Level 3 Apprenticeship Qualification.
Each day may bring new challenges and opportunities, including dealing with the British weather!
The main duties will include but are not limited to:
- Operating farm machinery including tractors and attachments
- Monitoring livestock
- Monitoring supplies stock e.g. livestock feed etc
- Handling livestock and providing appropriate accommodation for them
- Working in a team and keeping records.

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Your training plan
You will be supported by an assessor throughout your apprenticeship.
As you progress through your apprenticeship your duties and responsibilities will alter as you develop the skills for a successful career in agriculture.
Training will be a mix of face to face and online learning.
You will gain a Livestock Technician Level 3 qualification with further opportunities for training, development and permanent employment upon completion.
Functional Skills in maths and English if required.

GCSE or equivalent in:
- English and Maths (grade 4)

Other requirements
Activities are carried outside and inside in all weathers. Hours will vary depending on business needs (30-40 per week) and you will be on a rota, so you will need to be flexible. Please ensure you research the location and transport access. Start as soon as possible.
