Summary

Servicing plant machinery. Which will mainly comprise of rough terrain forklifts. This will make up the main part of your job role. You will need to ensure you are organised and can work as part of a team to ensure that the schedules and deadlines are met in order to keep the wider business operational.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  •  Complete regular daily duties to ensure all work related facilities are clean, clear and fit for purpose.
  • Any tools/parts/machinery must be kept in good order, stowed away correctly and clean ready for use.
  • Ensure that the entire site is tidy, any loose debris is attended to and all critical wash down areas are clean and ready for use.
  • Regular checks in the workshop area to ensure all spillages are attended to immediately, any slip or trip hazards are removed and the workshop floor is clean, clear and fit for operation.
  • General minor repairs and maintenance to site buildings and equipment are fulfilled to ensure good standards of upkeep are maintained.
  • Complete all necessary documentation accurately and neatly to ensure all goods and/or any other material are carried legally and within the terms of the company’s Policies and procedures.
  • Be flexible in approach to all duties expected as part of the job functions
  • Your development will focus on working within a team to ensure that deadlines and services schedules are adhered to. Your focus on detail is key as this will prove to be vital when the end user is using the FLT.
  • Safety within this role is paramount you will be expected to follow all SOP’s and adhere to the risk assessment and health and safety policies that will be outlined to you
  • Additional training will be provided to you as part of your development within the role, this will be specific to your role and aid in making you more complete as a mechanical engineer

As our Engineering Apprentice, we’ll help you to become qualified so you can:  

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance  
  • Provide maintenance of equipment  
  • Modify, test, and inspect condition-based monitoring and fault finding with our systems  
  • Help improve systems on our sites where required  
  • Work on technology which monitors and controls all aspects of processes and their performance across the site  
  • Carry out risk assessments and method statements to ensure activities are always completed in a safe manner  

In addition:  

  • position, assemble, install and dismantle mechanical plant and equipment which may include pumps, valves, gearboxes, pipework, to agreed specifications
  • carry out planned, unplanned and preventative maintenance procedures on mechanical plant and equipment
  • replace, repair or remove components in mechanical plant and equipment and ensure its return to operational condition
  • diagnose and determine the cause of faults in mechanical plant and equipment

  • Day release. 
  • You will undertake the Maintenance and Operations Engineering standard.       
  • Maintenance and operations engineering technician / Institute for
  • Apprenticeships and Technical Education. 
  • You will undertake Functional Skills for English and/or maths if needed.  
  • You will undertake both on and off-the-job training by a team of industry qualified professionals to give you the best skills, knowledge and experience that will help you.

GCSE in:

  • English and Maths (grade 4/C)
