Summary

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join us in September or October 2024 for a period of up to 21 months. The role is based in Acre Rigg Academy, Peterlee area. The role is offered at 32.5 hours per week and on a term-time basis. As an apprentice you will develop skills, knowledge and experience of working within Primary School.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Support and encourage pupils to move towards independent learning
  • Comprehend appropriate levels of learning resources to identify and help address weakness, consolidate strengths, and develop individualised expectations.
  • Recognise different stages of child development through school, e.g.: transition between key stages
  • Understand the need to accurately observe, record and report on pupil’s participation, conceptual understanding, and progress to improve practice and assessment for different groups of pupils.
  • Understand the importance of sharing relevant information, in a timely manner with the designated safeguarding lead
  • Understand the importance of first aid procedures, recording/reporting incidents and a broad knowledge of Health & Safety Policy
  • Develop strategies to support and encourage pupils to move towards independent learning
  • Embed effective behaviour management strategies using discipline appropriately and fairly in line with the school’s policy
  • Deliver interventions in accordance with training given (RAG rating)
  • Ensure regular communication with teachers to provide clarity and consistency of role within lessons
  • Deliver/lead small group teaching within clearly defined/planned parameters using initiative, sensitivity and understanding
  • Build appropriate relationships with colleagues, pupils, parents, adults, and stakeholders
  • Implement current statutory guidance including ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ Part 1, safeguarding policies, Prevent Strategy
  • Support pupils’ well-being whilst embedding the importance of online safety
  • Apply good subject knowledge to support accurate assessment
  • Work closely with teachers to ensure own contribution aligns with the teaching
  • Use school computer systems, including specialist software e.g.: online registration, intervention programmes and management information systems
  • Use a range of strategies including scaffolding and open questioning skills to enable pupils to access and engage in learning

  • Your training plan

    You will study towards the Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard qualification via Woodspeen Training.

    • Specialist Teaching Assistant Tutors deliver training each week (via Teams). Tasks and assessments are ongoing to check your understanding and progress throughout the apprenticeship. Regular reviews are also conducted quarterly
    • End-Point Assessment (EPA) is delivered by an independent end- point assessment organisation

    Acre Rigg Academy is one of seven schools which forms part of Tudhoe Learning Trust. Situated in Peterlee, Durham, Dene House Primary School is a friendly and welcoming school that serves the community. We are looking for a Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join us in September 2024 for a period of up to 18 months. The role is based in Tudhoe Colliery Primary School and offered at 32.5 hours per week and on a term-time basis. Within your apprenticeship you may be required to work different year groups, supporting teaching & learning in a variety of ways, including group work and one to one support, with the aim that all pupils can access our curriculum. Tudhoe Learning Trust is committed to promoting the welfare of and safeguarding all children in its schools and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Calculation of term time only Term time only plus is calculated based on the following: • Number of ‘teaching’ weeks – 39 weeks; plus • Public (bank) holidays – 1.6 weeks (8 days); plus • Individual leave entitlement - 5.4 weeks (26 days) or 6.4 weeks (31 days) Individual leave entitlement is calculated on the length of continuous service. Employees with less than 5 years’ service will receive 26 days annual leave. Employees with more than 5 years’ service will receive 31 days annual leave. For example: Calculation for employees with less than 5 years’ service: 39 weeks (term time) + 26 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 45 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments Calculation for employees with more than 5 years’ service: 39 weeks (term time) + 31 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 46 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments
