Summary

We are looking for an apprentice to join our expanding accountancy practice located in Mirfield. Our work is varied and interesting and we provide a friendly, flexible, and proactive all year-round service to small businesses and individuals in the local area. No previous experience is required as full training will be given.

£12,480 to £22,308 a year

The remuneration package will reflect that, commensurate with NMW for age, plus recognition of qualifications and relevant prior experience.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

THE ROLE

During your first few weeks, you will have a full induction to our firm, and training on all the systems that you will be using on a day-to-day basis. These include Office 365, and other relevent packages.

This is an extremely varied role in which you will need to have a flexible mindset and a willingness to learn and update your skillset regularly. We are a very technology-orientated firm, so our ideal candidate is someone who would enjoy engaging with new technologies in the accountancy sector and is committed to producing the high quality of data that such technologies require.

You will also undergo the basic training required of all staff members. This includes our telephony protocols, how to assist visitors, (those with appointments and walk-ins) and how to maintain client records.

Initially reporting to the Directors’ PA, your key duties will begin with:

  • Directing client enquiries on the phone/by email
  • Set up meetings and greet visitors
  • Scan client paperwork into digital document files
  • Update computer records

If you show an interest in accounting, you could learn about the preparation of financial accounts, interpretation of financial data and accounting and tax legislation. After completing this apprenticeship, progression then may be towards the AAT apprenticeship.

    You will complete an End Point Assessment this will involve the following:

    • Showcase/Portfolio

    You are given one day per week as time off to study; you will attend Kirklees College in Huddersfield to attend classes face to face and via teams to complete work for your apprenticeship.

    The study day is a Wednesday.

    More training information

    You must have a friendly, approachable, professional “can do” attitude and be able to take on training of new systems or processes.

    No prior experience of bookkeeping, accounting or taxation services is necessary, although an interest in these fields would be an advantage.
