Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

  • Upholster bespoke items of contemporary furniture
  • Learn upholstery techniques, which covers the use of traditional skills, combined with the latest techniques which are used in contemporary upholstery manufacturing
  • Learn a practical trade within a growing industry
  • Become a valued member of a friendly upholstery team working in a modern manufacturer

Your training plan

You will be required to attend WEBS Training on a block release basis which is for a week at a time every 10 weeks, based at WEBS Training in Beeston Nottingham, the cost of which is covered by the employer.  
 
As an upholsterer you will be based in the workshop and provided with tools and training required to fulfil the role. You will learn the underpinning knowledge that runs alongside your practical elements of the training. You will use a wide range of techniques whilst you complete a practical project in upholstery.   
 
Training will be provided in all areas of upholstery to ensure you can complete tasks to an extremely high standard that meet quality control.  
 
You will learn and use traditional and modern techniques and materials to produce aesthetically pleasing furniture and carry out repairs and reupholstery of beds and other items.  
 
If you have already achieved GCSE maths and English at Grade 4/C or above or have an equivalent qualification, you will be exempt from undertaking Functional Skills, however English and maths support will be provided for all apprentices throughout the length of their programme.
