  • Your training plan

You will undertake the “Assistant Accountant” Apprenticeship (an Advanced Apprenticeship in Accounting), with full support from Accountancy Learning as part of their Flexible Apprenticeship Programme.

Assessment will be by an “End Point Assessment” and will be graded “Pass” or “Distinction”. This will include two elements:

    • A Professional Discussion. This will include a series of questions allowing you to display the knowledge and experience you have obtained over your apprenticeship. You will build a Portfolio of reflections and product evidence that will be used for discussion points in the PD
    • A Synoptic Exam. This will include elements you have learnt throughout your studies of the individual AAT Units and this will contribute towards your end grade

You will be prepared for both of these elements by undertaking studies for the AAT (Level 3) Advanced Diploma in Accounting. These will underpin both elements of your “end point assessment”. As such, it is anticipated that your apprenticeship duration will be for 15-18 months although earlier completion is possible, provided the duration exceeds one year and a week. Those with no prior accounting knowledge may need to also complete the Bookkeeping units of AAT Level 2.

You will receive support from both the employer and the training provider, to complete and achieve your apprenticeship and will be given time to study during the week on a day-release basis. As you are working towards a professional qualification, it is also expected that you will continue your studies outside of normal office hours.
    Training location to be confirmed.

As you learn more in both the office and in your studies your responsibilities, and the variety of tasks you undertake, are expected to increase.

Those with previous relevant qualification and experience may be considered for a Higher Apprenticeship undertaking the Professional Accountant Standard.

    About this company

Are you looking for an Accountancy Apprenticeship where you can study for the AAT Qualification, get good quality structured experience and join a team where you feel you belong and what you do is appreciated? If so, then this is the opportunity you are looking for. You'll join a progressive firm of Chartered Accountants based in Torquay with a track record of supporting and developing team members to be the best they can be. Your colleagues will have gone through or are close to completing the AAT qualification through an apprenticeship scheme and will be part of your support team along with qualified Chartered Accountant managers. Alongside your AAT studies, as part of your development, you'll have a skills matrix (detailing the skills you'll need to learn to be a great accountant) that you'll work through with your training mentor. As your knowledge and experience grow, you will be taking more responsibility for the work you do and the customers you work with. As well as technical training for your accountancy qualifications you will be given opportunities for personal development to help you become the best you can be. You'll be based in a spacious, light and modern office, two minutes' walk from the centre of sunny Torquay with shops and a wide choice of places to get lunch or go shopping. Just a fifteen-minute walk to the harbour and beaches, near all the attractions you'd expect from the English Riviera, including parks, crazy golf, the pier, and a beachside promenade (ideal for a mindful walk at lunchtime) again with lots of bars and restaurants. There's a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, microwave etc.), and free coffee is on the go all day, and if you need a boost, you can help yourself to healthy snacks and fruit, too. We get on great as a team, sharing cakes on birthdays and special occasions. It's also brilliant to do things together. We regularly make the most of what you can do in South Devon, like bowling, Segway, crazy golf, archery, and kayaking down the river Dart with a campfire, hot chocolate and marshmallows. Of course, if you don't want to get involved in these activities, you don't have to, but they are great fun. But don’t take our word for it; here’s what Millie thinks: “I’ve been at Andrew Price & Co now for nearly 7 years. I started as an apprentice and I’m now a qualified accounting technician. The main work that I started with, and still involved with, is bookkeeping and doing vat returns for our customers and the work connected to that, like training customers on Xero, but I also prepare management accounts and year end accounts for companies. I love the work I do as I get to work closely with my customers and find out what’s going on in their businesses. At APCO there’s a relaxed and supportive environment lots of opportunities to progress.”
