Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
As an apprentice bookkeeping and VAT assistant you will work as part of a team assisting with clients’ accounting needs.
This position involves a number of different aspects including:
- Preparing financial statements for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders
- Preparing tax computations
- Providing bookkeeping services
- Preparation of VAT returns
- Filing Companies House and HM Revenue & Customs documents on client's behalf
- Data entry for the weekly and monthly client payrolls
- Processing purchase ledger invoices
- Supplier payments
- Reconciling suppler statements
- Maintaining supplier records
- Sales invoicing
- General admin, including a lot of ad-hoc duties, assisting the owners in both administration, finance and other duties, getting to really know the business, including
- Providing occasional cover on the telephone support
Assignments will be undertaken both in the office and at client's premises. Apprentices will have support and on the job training from managers and other senior staff.

Your training plan
You will undertake the “Accounts or Finance Assistant” Apprenticeship (an Advanced Apprenticeship in Accounting), with full support from Accountancy Learning as part of their Flexible Apprenticeship Programme.
You will spend four days a week in the office and/or at clients premises and one day a week studying.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- A minimum of 5 subjects including English & Maths (grade 9 - 4 (A* - C))
Desirable qualifications
A Level in:
- 2 subjects (grade A - C)
