This is an exciting opportunity for someone already qualified to AAT level 2 who would like to forge a career in accounting and taxation. You will join our team and help support the company as it continues to grow. You will manage your own portfolio of clients and assist with tax and VAT returns as well as HMRC submissions.

Salaries will be reviewed on an annual basis. A candidate’s job title and salary will also be reviewed on successful completion of work related qualifications and experience held within the organisation.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

This is an exciting opportunity for someone already qualified to AAT level 2 who would like to forge a career in accounting and taxation. You will join our team and help support the company as it continues to grow. You will manage your own portfolio of clients and assist with tax and VAT returns as well as HMRC submissions.

Your daily duties will include: 

  • Being responsible for own portfolio of clients
  • Preparing statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships, limited liability partnerships and limited companies
  • Preparing self-assessment tax returns for individuals, partnerships and trusts
  • Preparing Corporation Tax returns for limited companies
  • Preparing VAT returns for individuals, partnerships and limited companies
  • Maintaining tax records for our clients and ensuring all account and tax returns are submitted on time
  • Answering client and third parties queries in a timely manner and advising clients when to pay their tax liabilities
  • Assisting with our client’s PAYE calculations and HMRC submissions on weekly and monthly basis
  • Dealing with client and HMRC enquiries

Course contents
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Your training plan

    • You will undertake a number of qualifications including the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Level 3 Advanced Diploma
    • The programme covers a range of topics, including advanced bookkeeping, final accounts preparation, management accounting (costing), indirect tax, ethics for accounting, and spreadsheets
    • At the end of the apprenticeship you will be required to do an end point assessment which includes: the AAT Advanced Diploma assessments, skills tests, a portfolio of evidence, a synoptic assessment and a professional discussion

    Essential qualifications

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • English (grade 4)
    • Maths (grade 4)
    • AAT (grade Merit or above)

    Other requirements

    You must have achieved Accountancy at Level 2 to be able to do this role.
