Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Develop strategies to support and encourage pupils to move towards independent learning.
  • Use appropriately varied vocabulary to ensure pupils’ understanding
  • Embed effective behaviour management strategies using discipline appropriately and fairly per the school’s policy.
  • Deliver interventions in accordance with the training given.
  • Foster and encourage positive, effective, nurturing and safe learning environments inspiring pupils to take pride in and learn from their individual achievements.
  • Recognise, adapt and respond to all pupils encompassing SEN/emotional vulnerabilities, for example, use Makaton, visual timetables.

  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.
  • Your training plan

    • Training will take place in the workplace. 
    • You will be required to attend online delivery sessions that will be scheduled during your initial meeting with your tutor and mentor. 
    • You will be allocated 3 hours per week to complete written tasks and assignments.

    Other requirements

    Job purpose: · To work with children as part of a team under the overall direction of the Headteacher who will be responsible for the policy and educational programme and for matters of control and discipline within the National Curriculum Framework. · To assist the class teacher in maximising the participation of pupils in the social and academic processes of the school. · Under the instruction/guidance of teaching/senior staff, to encourage pupils to become more independent learners and help to raise the standard of achievement for all pupils. · All activities undertaken by colleagues at this level would be closely monitored by the class teacher or more senior colleagues and the content of learning activities would always be planned by the teacher/more senior staff. · To be aware of your responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of young persons whom you have contact with during the course of your duties. Influencing and Managing Relationships: • Collaborate closely with teachers to ensure own contribution aligns with the teaching. • Ensure regular communication with teachers to provide clarity and consistency of role within lessons. • Deliver/lead small group teaching within clearly defined/planned parameters using initiative, sensitivity and understanding . • Build appropriate relationships with colleagues, pupils, parents, and adults. • Comply with policy and procedures for sharing confidential information and know when and where to seek advice. • Implement current statutory guidance including ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ Part 1, safeguarding policies, Prevent Strategy As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the post-holder may be required to undertake other duties which are broadly in line with above key responsibilities. Job descriptions are reviewed periodically and update from time to time in line with requirements.
