Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- To care for and stimulate children through purposeful play and interactions, building strong relationships and promoting their development
- Provide a safe, happy, and stimulating environment for all children
- Ensure the smooth running of daily practices, adhering to expected procedures and following all Ollie Owl Nursery policies, including completing paperwork to a good standard
- Contribute to observing, assessing, and planning for all children in the room, particularly key children
- Ensure all children receive quality care and their development is promoted, including providing quality one-on-one time with key children each day
- Demonstrate an understanding of the Childcare Standards and the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Act as a Named Coordinator for designated skills or training, as assigned by the Nursery Manager
- Support the Room Leader and assist in planning activities within a designated area of the nursery
- Attend staff meetings and contribute by sharing best practices and training advice when needed
- Participate in training days, including up to two per year on Saturdays
- Build good working relationships with all parents, particularly those of key children
- Follow all Safeguarding & Welfare practices and report any safeguarding concerns to the Room Leader or senior staff, including concerns about other staff members
- Ensure that only designated staff administer medication, following risk assessments and policies
- Assist in keeping and monitoring all accident, incident, and risk assessment forms
- Promote equal opportunities for all children and staff, challenging any incidents of discrimination and reporting them to the Nursery Manager or Inclusion Officer
- Participate in parents' evenings, nursery events, open weekends, and children's outings
- Maintain the preparation, care, cleanliness, and maintenance of playrooms and equipment, including laundry duties
- Supervise meals and mealtimes, and prepare baby’s bottles when appropriate
- Undertake any other duties as directed by the Nursery Manager, Deputy Nursery Manager, or Room Leader
