Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to train as a phlebotomist, whilst undertaking the Customer Service Practitioner Level 2 apprenticeship. You will be working in our phlebotomy team, to offer a blood collection service in out-patient clinics, wards & community. You will also provide some general administrative support to Pathology & Phlebotomy.

£12,480 a year

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, this role will continue on the NHS Agenda for Change Band 2 salary (part time). NHS pension Minimum of 27 days annual leave, plus bank holidays. Flexible working (to meet the needs of the service)

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Effectively communicate with patients, team members, GP practices and community staff, to ensure a high standard of customer care. 
  • To offer a blood collection service for patients in our outpatient clinics, wards and community.
  • Complete all necessary documentation and computerised appointment system. 
  • Ensure the safe disposal of blood samples, in line with the Trust H&S protocols.
  • Take specimens into appropriate specimen collection containers, ensuring they are accurately labelled.
  • Use the (Airshute) specimen transport system.
  • Prepare glucose drinks and administer them to patients when necessary.  
  • Maintain stock levels of materials.
