Summary

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop an Engineering career within a well established and successful local business. The successful candidate will work within the Service Department carrying out repair, remanufacture, maintenance & replacement of all supported products.

Annual wage
£13,312 to £23,795.20 a year

Pay will be National Minimum Wage for age group. Pay will be reviewed after the first 6 months.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical - 

  • The role will involve the safe handling, disassemble, cleaning, inspection, and assembly of dirty and used components, mainly engines, transmissions, axles, and transfer cases, to the high standards demanded of an OEM distributorship.
  • Painting, palletising and shipping of completed units as required.
  • Complete required product training and development where required.
  • You will be expected to support other workshop activities as and when required and you may be required to make yourself available for overtime and international travel from time to time.

Compliance - 

  • Ensure test and sign off processes are followed and documented.
  • Complete and submit all paperwork to a high level of accuracy on time.
  • Ensure full compliance with company Quality Management System.

Operational Efficiency - 

  • Complete all required works within agreed timescales.
  • Demonstrate excellent time management ensuring jobs are prioritised effectively.
  • Provide suggestions to improve operational efficiency.
  • Attend team meetings and actively contribute to discussions.

QHSE - 

  • Test and evaluation of completed units to ensure customer satisfaction in line with company ISO9001, ISO14001 & ISO45001 policies.
  • Complete regular online and hands on training ensuring QHSE knowledge is at required level.
  • Proactively report QHSE concerns using internal systems or via your line manager.
  • To ensure that good time keeping, housekeeping and high standards of work are maintained at all times.
  • To carry out work in accordance with the rules, regulations and health & safety requirements as set out in the company employee’s handbook.

Commercial - 

  • As a representative of the company you will always be required to maintain a professional approach to your work.

LEVELS OF AUTHORITY:

  • Workshop Production Engineers have responsibility for the jobs for which they are assigned and have the necessary authority to make decisions relating to the successful completion of those jobs i.e. Parts ordering, assessment of component serviceability.

Course contents
  • Reading, interpreting and understanding the component or assembly specification, diagrams, drawings and work instructions.
  • Planning component or assembly task – materials, tools and equipment.
  • Preparing work area for component or assembly task; sourcing required resources, tools and equipment.
  • Carry out relevant planning and preparation activities before commencing work activity and know how to source required resources and interpret detailed drawings, specifications and job instructions.
  • Checking tools during and after task completion; identifying and reporting defects.
  • Measuring and testing, checking or inspecting component or assembly for example; use of micrometers, verniers, multimeters, voltmeter.
  • Problem solving; analysing the issue and fixing the issue where appropriate.
  • Applying improvement techniques; recommending or implementing solutions where appropriate.
  • Communicating with colleagues or customers (internal or external).
  • Completing component or assembly documentation for example job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation.
  • Reporting work outcomes or issues.
  • Restoring the work area on completion of the activity; returning any resources and consumables to the appropriate location and house-keeping.
  • Disposing of waste in accordance with waste streams; re-cycling, re-using where appropriate.
  • Operating within limits of responsibility.
  • Operating in line with quality, health and safety and environmental policy and procedures; identifying risks and hazards and identifying control measures where applicable.
  • Your training plan

    Tech cert : This programme includes BTEC Diploma in advanced Manufacturing Engineering.This programme is delivered via a day release delivery model which means that one day per week, your attendance is required at our Engineering campus, NG17. This attendance is required during term time only.

    • You will work with expert assessors to develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours within the profession.
    • You will experience a blended learning model.
    • You will gather learning evidence, journals and off-the-job records using your e-portfolio.
    • At the end of the planned learning period, it will be agreed that you are ready to enter 'Gateway' and for your End Point Assessment to be arranged.

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • English (grade A*/C - 9/4)
    • Maths (grade A*/C - 9/4)
