Summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual for this exciting opportunity to work with our children in the role of a Teaching Assistant Apprentice. You will have a passion for working with young children and are looking to achieve your apprenticeship in a primary school environment. The role will be based in Key Stage 1 & 2 classes.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Plan and deliver challenging learning activities for individuals and groups of children under the professional direction of a qualified teacher, implementing IEP’s
  • Assess, record and record on development, progress and attainment as agreed with the teacher
  • Monitor and record pupil responses and learning achievements, drawing any problems which cannot be resolved to the teacher
  • Plan and evaluate specialist learning activities with the teacher, writing reports and records as required
  • Support pupils in social and emotional well-being, reporting problems to the teacher as appropriate
  • Assist pupils with eating, dressing and hygiene as required, whilst encouraging independence
  • Supervise individuals and groups of pupils throughout the course of the day including supervision in the classroom and playground
  • Have a calm approach with high expectations
  • Contribute to the overall ethos and aims of the school
  • Be an excellent role model for all children at all times
  • Work in a highly professional and confidential manner at all times
  • Assist class teachers with day-to-day class duties
  • Undertake other duties from time to time as the headteacher requires
  • Attend staff and team meetings
  • Participate in appropriate CPD opportunities
  • Liaise between parents and outside agencies in a professional manner
  • To support with breakfast or after school club
  • To attend College 100% of the agreed time and to produce course work in a timely manner

  • Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners.
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.
  • Your training plan

    • You will work towards the Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship standard
    • Full on the job training will be provided by the employer
    • You will be required to attend Bishop Auckland College once a week during term time to attend Teaching Assistant classes

    Essential qualifications

    GCSE in:

    • English (grade 9-4 / A*-C / Level 2)
    • Maths (grade 9-4 / A*-C / Level 2)

    When working in a school you must consider that you will not be allowed to take time off for holidays during term time. Please consider where the school is situated, you may need to check public transport or have your own. Short listing will take place first with BAC as a pre interview followed by interview and possible work trial with employer.
