As a trainee accountant at Farnell Clarke, this is the start of an exciting career in accountancy practice. During your apprenticeship you will support the Outsourcing team with daily, weekly and monthly financial tasks which enable the smooth and effective running of our clients’ businesses.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Business Services:
- Using cloud software, undertake and assist with bookkeeping tasks (bank reconciliations, purchase / sales invoices, etc) for our clients
- Become an integral part of client’s team. Assisting with their email mailbox, being the first responder, resolving queries where possible and referring to our client when needed
- Ability and willingness to become proficient on client’s own software, extracting information required for the accounts
- Assist with the preparation of quarterly VAT returns for clients, submitting to Senior bookkeeper / Management accountant for review
- Support with the preparation of management accounts, posting the wages journal using the BrightPay integration and posting simple accruals and prepayments as well as maintaining the fixed asset register
Administration:
- Using our practice management tool, Karbon, ensure your clients work tasks and notes are kept up to date and email are responded to within 24 hours
- Ensure electronic and physical client files are complete and maintained fully
Business Development:
- Build positive relationships with clients in day-to-day work
- Promote the services of the business to clients and potential clients
Team:
- Communicate effectively with others in the team
- Work collaboratively with colleagues in order to meet the objectives of the business
- Contribute to team meetings and put forward ideas and feedback in order to improve ways of working

- Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
- Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
- Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
- Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
- Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
- Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
- Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
- Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
- Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

GCSE in:
