Summary

This role is an excellent opportunity for someone wanting to begin a career in accountancy, on an apprenticeship. You will largely be working on bookkeeping, VAT and accounts preparation projects but will also assist in some of the day-to-day functions that are essential to keeping the office running smoothly.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Day to day duties will include:

  • Preparation of clients bookkeeping and quarterly vat returns, using accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Payroll processing
  • Control account reconciliations
  • Assisting with the preparation of year end and management account files for clients who are sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
  • Assisting clients with any accounting software / bookkeeping queries they might have
  • Office duties including administration, filing, answering the telephone, photocopying, scanning, meeting visitors, making drinks for meetings etc as required
  • Regular, appropriate communication with clients through conversations, emails, letters and face to face meetings

  • Looking to continue their education within accountancy
  • Some level of Practice experience to assist in running and take ownership of a portfolio of clients
  • Problem solving abilities in order that you can take client issues and independently and satisfactorily resolve them
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at every level
  • A good eye for detail, and a flair for producing high quality written communications
  • A positive mindset and a get up and go, can-do attitude
  • Ability to respond under pressure in a complex environment, whilst managing a high and diverse workload

Course contents
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

    Working towards AAT Level 3 qualification. 

    Training with Solveway Apprenticeships - you can attend in-person classroom training or attend our live online classroom learning via our learning portal.

    After this apprenticeship

    During your apprenticeship you will be required to complete a workplace portfolio, participate in the classroom training and complete any employer training, all of which will count towards your 20% off the job training. Possibility of progression onto a higher-level apprenticeship or a permanent contract will be available for the successful candidate.

    Please note the apprenticeship qualification will take approximately 15 months to complete, but the job role is a permanent position with scope to grow & develop within the Bracey's team.
