Summary

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Apprentice Teaching Assistant to join our successful SEN department. The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for working with children with additional needs and are able to establish good relationships with students and recognise their individual needs.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Work closely with the class teacher to contribute to the management of student behaviour, maintain order and an appropriate working environment including implementation of the school’s behaviour policies.
  • Establish and promote productive relationships with students acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
  • Promote the inclusion of all students within the classroom and school.
  • Support students by recognising their individual needs.
  • Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other relevant staff to support students’ learning and progress.
  • Effectively communicate the work set by the class teacher to the students and ensure that students are aware of the teacher’s expectations.

  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners.
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

    An apprenticeship allows you to earn a wage, gain valuable work experience and industry specific competence. You will be
    expected to work towards the Teaching Assistant level 3, with support from your employer and the Chesterfield College Group.
