This is a fantastic opportunity to join Appleby Grammar School as a Teaching Assistant apprentice! Within this role you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced and qualified staff while supporting students who have additional learning needs.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Supporting students within whole class teaching
  • Delivering planned learning activities to small groups and on a 1:1 basis
  • Keeping detailed and accurate records of student's participation and progress 
  • Supporting the academic, social and emotional development of the students
  • Maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all of our students
  • Communicating clearly with all staff members

Course contents
  • Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners.
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.
  • Your training plan

    This Level 3 apprenticeship is expected to last a period of between 12 –18 months. 

    You will attend live tutor led sessions 2 days every month (1 day every other week which will be via Zoom) and participate in online interactive learning via our bespoke innovative platform OLLIE.  

    Your Tutor will also visit you in the workplace for 1-2-1 Tutor sessions during the programme.
