Summary

You will have the opportunity to gain valuable skills, knowledge and experience as you complete a Data Technician - Level 3 Apprenticeship. As a Data Engineer, you’ll be learning how to use, analyse, and communicate data to assist businesses in multiple sectors, working with our existing team, but with the opportunity to build new projects.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Digital product collaboration: using digital tools to collaborate on a project from the early phases of design through to implementation of a finished product.
  • Data analytics and processing: analysing & combining data from multiple sources and processing it to create reports, structure databases, and plan & design systems.
  • Data sources and validation: understanding the reliability and validity of data sources and using APIs to obtain up-to-date data.
  • Web development: developing web-based applications to display data cleanly on both desktop and mobile devices.
  • Client communication: communicating your results & outcomes to clients, and responding to client queries, within agreed timescales.
  • Security & compliance: ensuring that all of the above is handled in a secure manner in accordance with relevant UK law.

  • Source and migrate data from already identified different sources.
  • Collect, format and save datasets.
  • Summarise and explain gathered data.
  • Blend data sets from multiple sources and present in format appropriate to the task.
  • Manipulate and link different data sets as required.
  • Use tools and techniques to identify trends and patterns in data.
  • Apply basic statistical methods and algorithms to identify trends and patterns in data.
  • Apply cross checking techniques for identifying faults and data results for data project requirements.
  • Audit data results.
  • Demonstrate the different ways of communicating meaning from data in line with audience requirements.
  • Produce clear and consistent technical documentation using standard organisational templates.
  • Store, manage and distribute in compliance with data security standards and legislation.
  • Explain data and results to different audiences in a way that aids understanding.
  • Review own development needs.
  • Keep up to date with developments in technologies, trends and innovation using a range of sources.
  • Clean data i.e. remove duplicates, typos, duplicate entries, out of date data, parse data (e.g. format telephone numbers according to a national standard) and test and assess confidence in the data and its integrity.
  • Operate as part of a multi-functional team.
  • Prioritise within the context of a project.

    Essential qualifications

    GCSE in:

    • any 3 subjects (grade 4+ (A*-C))
    • Maths & English (grade 3+ (D or above))
