Summary

We’re looking for a warehouse operator with a great attitude to join a small team in a busy warehouse. The role comes with potential to gain experience in other areas of the business including customer service and order processing.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Picking and Packing customer orders with care and accuracy
  • Produce shipment paperwork and labelling ready for despatch
  • Re-stocking and rotating stock according to established procedures
  • Reporting any damaged or missing goods to Warehouse
  • Managers or Supervisors
  • Keeping the warehouse environment clean and tidy and maintaining equipment
  • Following workplace health and safety rules when handling goods
  • Ensuring efficient operations by adhering to operational procedures, rules and schedules
  • Assisting with warehouse inventory controls & stock checks
  • Treating merchandise with care at all times

Course contents
  • Conduct risk assessments within the working environment.
  • Apply safe working practices in line with associated health and safety legislation and company policy.
  • Receive products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Store and pick products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Dispatch products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Decant, pack products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Communicate with others verbally, for example internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers.
  • Communicate in writing with others, for example internal and external customers, colleagues and managers.
  • Load and unload products, considering the product that is to be moved and its current and planned destination.
  • Use tools and equipment to aid in product handling.
  • Use information technology and digital systems. Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
  • Locate and use operational information, electronic or paper based, required to fulfil contractual requirements.
  • Select, prepare, and use packaging materials that reduce waste and mitigate environmental impacts.
  • support under instruction scheduled and unscheduled stock taking activities relevant to the organisation and product.
  • Identify and escalate problems beyond own responsibility.
  • Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
  • Follow equity, diversity and inclusion rules.
  • Carry out and record learning and development activities.
  • Conducts handover activities.
  • Your training plan

    You will be working towards a Level 2 qualification in Supply Chain Warehouse Operations.

    Your attendance will be in college one day a month over the full period of the apprenticeship. 

    The final year will involve completion of a portfolio and preparation for End Point Assessment (EPA). This measures the skills, knowledge and behaviours outlined in the standard and is carried out by ESFA approved organisations independent from the college.

    Apprentices without Level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this prior to taking the End Point Assessment.

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • English and maths (grade 3 or above)
