Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish constructive and positive relationships with pupils
  • Support pupils with access to learning and activities, providing guidance and ensuring physical, social, emotional, and intellectual
    development
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans and/or Personal Care Programmes
  • Administer routine tests and invigilate exams within the department
  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils’ work.
  • Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage pupils to
    take responsibility for their own behaviour.
  • Assist with the planning of learning activities.
  • Undertake structured and agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses.
  • Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use.
  • Assist with the supervision of pupils with SEN out of lesson times, including before and after school and at lunch and break times.
  • Prepare, maintain, and use resources to meet relevant learning objectives
  • Promote positive values, attitudes and behaviour maintaining a purposeful and supportive learning environment
  • Deal promptly with incidents and concerns, reporting where appropriate in line with school policy
  • Provide administrative and organisational support for the teacher / department
  • Maintain accurate records using relevant systems in line with policy and records management procedures
  • Attend meetings and undertake duties as required in line with school calendar, sharing expertise and supporting others
  • Contribute to the development of systems and procedures in the department, support the life of the school and work within the
    overall aims and objectives of the school

  • Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners.
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.
  • Your training plan

    • Apprentice will be in school 5 days per week
    • Skills coach will come in to school every 4-6 weeks and conduct observations, feedback sessions and training where appropriate
    • All assignments will be uploaded to our CRM system, Aptem

    GCSE in:

    • English (grade 4)
    • Maths (grade 4)
