Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
The Calendar company is a growing business, supplying calendars and printed goods to organisations around the UK. We are the leading manufacturer of calendars for photographers in the country. We also work hand in hand with our other company, GB jigsaws. We are a small team but together we are expanding and have successfully transitioned our business into the modern print world. We have a reputation for quality.
The Calendar company is offering an apprentice position as a Level 3 Print Technician. After completing the apprenticeship the successful applicant will be offered a full time position as a print technician.
Tasks will include the below:
- Full training will be given in the operation and maintenance of a digital press, working then with supervision until confident
- Monitor the printing process to ensure quality and consistency
- Be taught how to detect and fix issues with the print
- Use a digital guillotine to cut print to size
- Run calendars through an automatic punch
- Follow all safety procedures outlined
- Work within a small team
- Learn to manage their workload to ensure jobs are completed on time

Advanced Apprenticeship Standard for Print Technicians (Level 3)
A full plan will be created at the start of the apprenticeship to provide information as to what you will be studying and when. Learn2print will deliver the theoretical knowledge for your Print Apprenticeship (Training schedule to be confirmed, further details will be made available at a later date).
You will attend a class each month for one full day at a local venue (this information will be provided in the interview) This teaching and training will cover everything from health and safety and general industrial practices to specific industry practices. This will lead you to preparation for your endpoint assessment, consisting of an online exam, professional discussion and observation in the workplace.
You will be allocated a designated tutor and workplace mentor who will support and guide you through the apprenticeship.

GCSE or equivalent in:
- English (grade Grade C/4 or above)
- Maths (grade Grade C/4 or above)

Other requirements
Travel expenses to Stoke campus for study days will be covered by The Calendar Company. A pay increase may be received throughout the Apprenticeship, measured by performance.

After this apprenticeship
After completing the Apprenticeship the successful applicant will be offered a full-time position as a Print Technician.
We anticipate the Calendar Company will require more print equipment as the company expands. As such the pay will increase to reflect the increased skills required by the applicant.
