Summary
As a Painting and Decorating Apprentice, you will learn the essential skills and techniques required to become a qualified painter and decorator. Working alongside our experienced team, you will gain hands-on experience carrying out commercial and higher end decorating. We are a young team, and have 5 in the team which we are looking to grow.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Painters and Decorators operate in domestic and commercial properties and undertake the decoration and protection of buildings.
Properties include houses, schools, offices, hospitals factories and construction sites. Working internally or externally they work individually and/or as part of a team applying water-borne and/or solvent-borne paint coatings and wallcoverings.
They have good knowledge of paint coatings and wallcoverings and understand and comply with statutory, safety and environmental requirements.
They are responsible for their own work achieving a high quality finish at the appropriate pace. They are good problem solvers and communicators and are able to interact effectively with colleagues, clients and associated trades.
What You'll Learn:
- Surface Preparation: How to clean, sand, and fill surfaces for painting or decorating
- Application Techniques: Mastering painting, rolling, spraying, and wallpapering
- Material Knowledge: Understanding different paints, wallpapers, and how to mix colors
- Tools and Equipment: Proper use and care of brushes, rollers, sprayers, and ladders
- Health and Safety: Following safety regulations and using PPE correctly
- Customer Service: Communicating effectively with clients and meeting their needs
- Project Management: Planning work to meet deadlines and budgets
- Problem-solving: Tackling common challenges and adapting to different environments
- Preparing surfaces for painting or decorating (sanding, billing, etc.)
- Applying paint, wallpaper, and other finishes to various surfaces
- Mixing and matching paints and other materials
- Understanding and following health and safety regulations
- Assisting with the selection of tools and materials
- Ensuring a clean and safe work environment

More training information
College day release at Nottingham College, one day per week for 2 years at Basford campus.
The next-day release is due to start 5th November 2024. However the employer is looking to employ someone before then. That is just the date you will start college.

GCSE in:
- English & maths (grade 3 or D or Level 1 pass)

Other requirements
As you will not be working in one fixed location, to be considered for this apprenticeship vacancy, employer has asked that the candidate needs to be no more than 30-45 minutes commute to meet Belper centre, Derbyshire, DE56 for ongoing transport/lift to the place of work.
