Summary
Your primary responsibility will be to set up, operate, and maintain machines to produce high-quality complex and precision work by machining products such as rolls, parts, and components. Products are machined from metal or specialist materials using conventional or computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- Machining of various materials
- Turning, milling, and drilling to manufacture and refurbish precision rollers
- Manual handling and lifting equipment, including overhead cranes and forklifts
- All aspects of manufacturing using the latest manufacturing methods
- Machine setup and operation
- Tooling and maintenance
- Quality control and inspection
- Documentation and reporting
- Health and safety
You will be supported to undertake recognised qualifications whilst gaining on-the-job experience. As an apprentice machinist technician, you will work under the guidance and supervision of experienced machinists and learn the skills required to operate CNC and conventional machines.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- Maths & English (grade 4)
