An exciting opportunity has arisen for an apprenticeship for a Veterinary Nurse to join our small animal practice in Coventry. Monday–Friday (8 hour shifts, rota, between 8am-7pm) 4 days in clinic; 1 day in college  Saturdays on 1:9 rota You will need to be able to travel to college (CAW) for the training. Any job offer is conditional on you being accepted by the College.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Various Shifts

  • Op 1 – assisting veterinary surgeon in theatre and diagnostics
  • Kennel 1 – Pre & post operative care of our inpatients
  • Laboratory – Running laboratory inc Haematology/biochemistry/microscopy/cytology
  • Dispensary – Preparing/dispensing medication
  • Ops 2 - assisting veterinary surgeon in theatre and diagnostics
  • Kennels 2 - Pre & post operative care of our inpatients
  • Consults – Running the nurse clinic inc 2nd vaccinations, post-op checks, nail clips (observing & assisting with RVN)
  • Prep – Assist in preparing animals for surgery

  • Conduct nursing clinics
  • Prepare and maintain all areas of the veterinary practice at all times
  • Prepare records, equipment and resources
  • Work in a safe and effective manner
  • Manage and perform effective infection control procedures
  • Provide nursing support as required
  • Prepare, use, maintain, store and dispose equipment, pharmaceuticals and materials appropriately

    GCSE in:

    • Science (grade A*-C or 9-4)

    Permanent job role as a veterinary nurse with us may be available (full-time or part-time employment) after completion of the apprenticeship course.

    After completing the apprenticeship, you can apply for professional registration as a veterinary nurse with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).
