Summary

Apprentice Teaching Assistant. Training in delivering in lesson in a primary school as well as some in house training. Supporting teachers in class and around the school, possibly with a child with complex needs.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Support the class teacher to develop and support with the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning in the classroom
  •  Support the children with complex needs
  • The job will involve helping young children with their personal care
  • Commit at all times to the safeguarding and protection of children and young people
  • To support coach to maintain high quality behaviour
  • To support the teacher to maintain high expectations of students and ensure that teaching materials and tasks are appropriate, with opportunities created for stretch and challenge at all levels
  • To ensure equipment is set up and ready for use in lessons
  • To assist at fundraising activities
  • Any other duties deemed reasonable by the Principal

Course contents
  • Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners.
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

    • You will be working towards a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard
    • You will receive on and off the job training and support from an assessor

    Essential qualifications

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • English and maths (grade C/4)
    • Science (grade C/4)
