Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- You will be involved in supporting the supply, preparation and assembly of medicines and products; issuing them to patients and other healthcare professionals and assisting in providing advice to patients to help them make effective use of their medicines
- You will also be responsible for ordering and receiving medicines, as well as their storage, disposal and return
- You will have an understanding of healthy lifestyle choices and relevant screening services
- Maintaining a clean and organised pharmacy environment

Training
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Course contents
Your training plan
You will work towards achieving the Level 3 Pharmacy Technician (Integrated) Apprenticeship Standard, which includes:
- A Level 3 qualification in Dispensing and Medicine Counter Assistant, accredited by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
Functional Skills Level 2 in maths and English (if not already achieved)
An End-Point Assessment (EPA), which consists of a multiple-choice test, a practical observation, and a professional discussion
Your training will take place at Sutton Pharmacy with one day a week working on the Buttercups training course.
Training schedule has yet to be agreed upon, further details will be made available at a later date.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade C/4 or above)
- Maths (grade C/4 or above)
