Summary

Join our ShipShape team in a fast paced, fun environment. No two days are the same. Your main duties will be daily food prep for our varied menu. Many of our customers visit regularly for our legendary breakfast. Our kitchen is open plan, customers can see what is cooking and love banter.

We are open from 6am to 5pm every day except Christmas and Boxing Day You will work and train 30 hours. Hours are given in advance. Occasionally we have evening & outside events. Shifts TBC.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • You will bake cakes daily.
  • Cook and prepare fresh food as part of a small team, with lots of learning opportunities.
  • Be included in the end of day stock rotation, cleaning, washing up, all our staff work together.

Course contents
  • Check, prepare, assemble, cook, regenerate, hold and present food meeting the needs of the customers and maintaining organisational standards and procedures.
  • Use kitchen tools and equipment correctly to produce consistently high quality dishes according to specifications.
  • Take responsibility for the cleanliness, organisation and smooth running of the work area.
  • Produce dishes to suit individuals’ specific dietary, religious and allergenic  needs as required.
  • Operate within all regulations, legislation and procedural requirements.
  • Complete and maintain documentation to meet current legislative guidelines.
  • Use effective methods of communication with all colleagues, managers and customers to promote a positive image of yourself and the organisation.
  • Work in a fair and empathetic manner to support team members while offering a quality provision.
  • Work to ensure customer expectations are met.
  • Work collaboratively to uphold the vision, values and objectives of the organisation.
  • Use technology appropriately.
  • Maintain quality and consistency in food production by using resources in line with organisations’ financial constraints, style, specifications and ethos.
  • Identify own learning style, personal development needs and opportunities and take action to meet those needs.
  • Use feedback positively to improve performance.

    • Training will be weekly and include online courses for food hygiene, health and safety, allergen and intolerance awareness, many other courses will available
    • Training will be a mix of on site and in our quieter office a few doors down at Arch 14 where access to a quiet workspace, computer and support (from business owner)

    During the past 20 years, Shipshape has become a community hub. She is perfectly placed under the historic arches on the beautiful Ramsgate Royal Harbour. We have been employing people at Shipshape for 17 years, currently we have 18 people mostly full a few part time.
