Summary

You will be required to support children in accessing the curriculum, this will sometimes be 1 to 1 and sometimes in small groups. You will support by helping children retain focus, scribing, reading and providing emotional support and guidance.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

To be responsible for supporting academic progress of students
You may be assigned a student to support on a 1 to 1 basis or work with a group.
Teaching Assistants are required to get to know the children they support and understand their barriers to learning and then support those children to access the curriculum using a range of strategies.
To follow academy routines and processes as directed
To provide appropriate academic support to students
To work as a member of the learning support team

Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.

Encourage safe use of technology by learners.

Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).

Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.

Provide feedback to learners.

During this teaching assistant apprenticeship you will promote self-belief, social inclusion and high self-esteem which will play an integral part to pupils’ wellbeing. You will become an essential part in the learning environment for the classroom teacher and pupils. Working to ensure pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing and safe environment. It is an active role supporting the learner to access the curriculum and expand their knowledge. TAs play a crucial role in supporting teachers and pupils. Your work can have a significant impact on the children's learning experiences, helping them to succeed academically and personally.
