Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- Preparing detailed designs for projects using various software
- Communicating designs to the design team and clients
- Producing and review project drawings

- As an apprentice, you will be required to complete the Civil Engineering Technician apprenticeship
- This involves completion of projects and assignments throughout the programme
- 20% of time on your apprenticeship (1 days per week) will be allocated for study, either at South Bank Technical college or in the workplace
- At the end of the apprenticeship, you will be required to complete an end point assessment

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- 5 GCSEs including Maths, English and Science (grade 4 or above)

Other requirements
The role of a CAD Technician Apprentice could be the first step into a varied and exciting career! You will need to have an interest in engineering and design, alongside the ability to manage your time well and work to strict deadlines. The role is mainly office-based, but there will also be opportunities to visit different sites, where you will be able to see what you have designed come to life. You will need to be aware of, and work to different industry standards. A mentor will work alongside you to support your development during the apprenticeship but you will also need to take responsibility for managing your own workload and show initiative.

After this apprenticeship
- Once you have completed your apprenticeship, you will have the chance to work as a qualified Civil Engineering Technician, which in turn can lead on to design office manager or other senior level roles within the organisation
