Study for your Level 3 AAT qualification with EMA and complete duties supporting the finance team.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

This is an excellent opportunity to learn and develop with a supportive team to guide you through your studies whilst working closely with your manager who will mentor you with the aim to progress within our company. Duties will include:

  • To assist in processing of purchase and sales invoices as well as payments.
  • Accurately maintain confidential company information and records.
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure the efficient operations of the business.
  • Support in credit control and setting up credit insurance.
  • Support in petty cash and banking
  • Support in daily bank & credit card reconciliations.
  • Support to keep accurate stock movements, stocktake and valuations.
  • Support in weekly payroll.
  • Support in providing accurate information for product costs and pricing
  • Processing transactions on systems such as Sage 200, Excel and Customer Relation Management Systems
  • Providing support to other members of the team including Finance Director.
  • Administration duties required by the department along with any other ad hoc duties.

Course contents
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Your training plan

    The Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship Standard includes 6 AAT exams, in addition to the Synoptic Assessment as part of the End-Point Assessment (EPA) process. You will recieve a AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting upon successful completion.

    The knowledge units will be delivered at the EMA training hub in Nottingham (depending on apprentices’ location) through day release.

    AAT Modules are as follows:

    • Introduction to Bookkeeping (L2 Unit)
    • Principles of Bookkeeping (L2 Unit)
    • Management Accounting Techniques
    • Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements
    • Business Awareness
    • Tax Processes for Business

    • If you have sat your A levels (all though these are not essential) they must be graded to C or above.

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • Maths and English (grade C or 4 or higher)

    Desirable qualifications

    A Level in:

    • English (grade C)
    • Maths (grade C)

    After this apprenticeship

    • Tennants are keen to progress the apprentice through the various levels of AAT once completing level 3 AAT,with plans to progress onto higher study with the capability and willingness to progress further onto chartered status.
