Summary

Kingwood Thoroughbred are a rapidly growing yard looking to grow our team. We are looking for a Racing Groom rider apprentice. We are a pre-training yard that specialises in racing pre-training and rehabilitation with some breeding on-site. You will need to have previous experience in all aspects of horse care plus be a confident jockey.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

As part of the equine groom role, your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Grooming
  • Mucking out
  • Tacking up
  • Turning out and bringing in
  • Feeding
  •  We have a preference for a competent rider. For the right candidate, we are looking to offer riding opportunities. On site we have salt spas, hydro pools, sand canter track, and on-site Gallops
  • We have over a hundred stables - so will be plenty to keep you busy! At the end of the day - you can relax in our top of the range on-site accommodation if you wish to live on-site

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship Standard:

  • You will also complete level 1 or 2 English and/or maths functional skills if required
  • All training to be completed on site with the employer and your dedicated trainer coach from Haddon Training, this will be done one day a week as part of your off the job training

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)
