The company is seeking an enthusiastic individual to work in our manufacturing plant creating a range of textile products.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • To learn about the handle of various fabrics, the coating of them, to check that the colour matches up against the standard and that the samples in stock are up to date against this standard
  • Operate a fabric inspection machine and roll and pack products to a high standard
  • To learn how to use the cutting machine & fabric drill to produce C5 and C4 fabric samples
  • To learn about the different types of fabrics that are on stock, from Blackout to Woven fabrics and to learn the different product codes for each sku
  • To understand how woven fabrics are produced and faults that are likely to be found, such as weaving faults, dropped ends and dropped picks
  • To understand how supplier fabric samples and customer orders are approved
  • To understand what processes are in place for the arrival of new products; i.e. To produce new cuttings of these items, to input them onto the system and generate labels for them
  • To learn how to set up and operate digital transfer print machines to produce high quality prints
  • Receive and process digital files through AVA software
  • Load & unload materials onto printing equipment & adjust parameters for optimal results
  • Learn routine print machine maintenance

Course contents
  • Read and interpret information for example, standard operating procedures, manuals, production plans, handover notes.
  • Organise and prioritise own work.
  • Follow health, safety and environmental procedures in line with regulations, standards, and guidance.
  • Apply sustainability principles for example, minimise energy usage, minimise waste, and recycle materials.
  • Follow operating procedures.
  • Check resources.
  • Check and set up equipment and machinery.
  • Conduct start-up quality checks.
  • Feed textile product components into the machine.
  • Monitor manufacturing process; adjust parameters for example, speed, temperature.
  • Conduct in-process production quality checks (roaming).
  • Conduct final inspection quality checks.
  • Prepare output for next stage for example, label, package.
  • Monitor own performance data.
  • Collect and record information: text or data - paper based or electronic.
  • Identify and segregate resources for reuse, recycling, and disposal.
  • Follow basic maintenance procedures for example, clean, oil and lubricate machinery.
  • Identify and resolve common faults and issues.
  • Escalate issues.
  • Identify opportunity for continuous improvement.
  • Use information technology and digital systems. Comply with cyber security.
  • Apply team working principles.
  • Communicate with others for example, colleagues, customers, and managers.
  • Carry out and record learning and development activities.
  • Your training plan

    The apprentice will be registered onto the IfATE approved Textile Manufacturing Operative apprenticeship scheme Level 2, delivered by our partners, the Textile Centre of Excellence. 

    The programme will last for 15 months, where the successful candidate will be given the knowledge, skill and behaviours needed to suceed in our workplace. 

    Training will be a day release at our training provider's office in Huddersfield at least one day per month, with additional visits from the provider on-site to work through a training programme and learning plan.

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • Maths (grade 4/C)

    Apprentices following this apprenticeship pathway could potentially progress into further studying and learning on high level apprenticeships, as well as develop their role as a Manufacturing Team Leader/Supervisor. 

    As opportunities come up, some learners may progress into line management roles over time.
