Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
We have an exciting new opportunity as an Apprentice Lifeguard at Places Leisure, where you will be working in a fun, lively environment with likeminded people. You will help to inspire others to work together and deliver their very best. Your role within the centre will be to contribute to our customer's development, offering them expert advice whilst helping them draw up a plan on how to effectively complete their goals, you will be the face of our club and play an important role in terms of engaging our clients.
KEY OBJECTIVES
1. To support and contribute to the company's mission statement - 'To create active places and healthy people'
2. To ensure the comfort and safety of all users of the Centre.
K.O.1
- To maintain vigilant supervision of pool users and ensure their safety at all times.
- To administer first aid, effect pool rescues and apply resuscitation as necessary.
- To comply with the Centre's Health and Safety procedures at all times.
- To deal with customers in a friendly and professional manner.
- To report any matter of concern to the Duty Manager immediately.
- To carry out cleaning duties as necessary.
- To wear the prescribed staff uniform at all times.
- To carry out patrols of the Centre.
- To prepare activity areas involving the setting up/dismantling of equipment.
- To ensure that all Centre equipment is stored safely and securely when not in use.
- To report any maintenance issues using the appropriate procedures.
- To assist the Duty Manager with any tasks involved in the operation of the Centre.
- To maintain any suggested training requirements.
We currently have the below weekly hours available:
40 hours per week times
19.5 hours per week
16 hours per week
17.5 hours per week
As an apprentice with Xcel Leisure Centre, you will be studying towards a 12-18 months qualification that will be the Customer Service Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship.

- Be able to organise yourself, prioritise your own workload/activity and work to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrate patience and calmness.
- Show you understand the customer’s point of view.
- Use appropriate sign-posting or resolution to meet your customers needs and manage expectations.
- Maintain informative communication during service recovery.

Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship L2 including Functional Skills in Maths and English. Training delivery to be confirmed.
