Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

On a day-to-day basis as an apprentice, you will be doing the following:

  • Working independently or as part of a team
  • Following fabrication/assembly manuals from set out to completion
  • Learn how to fabricate to the specifications set out by our various system suppliers
  • Learn techniques to enable you to fabricate the product to a high standard that meets our client’s requirements
  • General housekeeping & work area cleanliness
  • Loading, unloading, and general labouring
  • General Health & Safety
  • Health & Safety rules and regulations

  • Comply with industry regulations, standards and guidance.
  • Identify and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Prepare and maintain a safe working area and restore on completion of work.
  • Perform machinery checks for example crimper and welder.
  • Comply with Health and Safety regulations, standards and guidance.
  • Interpret, safe systems of work, review risk assessments and implement control measures.
  • Apply manual and mechanical handling techniques to handle and position products.
  • Select the type and quantity of materials and components.
  • Communicate with others verbally for example, colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Use digital and written methods to communicate with others.
  • Select, check and use hand and power tools, equipment and machinery.
  • Read and interpret information from work documents and other sources, for example drawings, specifications, digital documents, work instructions or manufacturer's guidance.
  • Plan order of works. Manage time and tasks to meet project deadlines.
  • Measure, mark and drill materials.
  • Escalate defects, faults or issues.
  • Assemble and join fabrication materials including checking square.
  • Select and fix ancillary items and beading to products.
  • Carry out interim and final inspection for example, size, shape, design and ancillary items.
  • Comply with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance, recycling and disposal.
  • Complete handover process.

Your training plan

The apprenticeship in Fenestration consists of:

  • Intermediate Standard Apprenticeship-Fenestration Fabricator
  • Functional Skills in English and Math’s (Level 1/2) where applicable

All aspects of your training will be delivered on-site with your employer, and you will have regular site visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor, who will monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship program.
You will achieve a qualification in Fenestration Fabricator Level 2 Standard.

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • Maths & English (grade A* - B / 9 - 5)

Desirable qualifications

A Level or equivalent in:

  • Maths & English (grade A* - C)

Other requirements

Please be aware we work outside as well as inside on our jobs as they demand, as such you may be out in the cold for long periods of time. The work can also be physically quite demanding so please consider this before applying. Please note that interviews may take place before the vacancy close date and the successful applicant may start before the advertised start date.
