Summary
South Yorkshire Pensions Authority are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Finance Apprentice. In this role, you will support the team by undertaking a range of finance and administrative duties. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience whilst working towards a Level 3 AAT qualification.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
- Use of a variety IT applications and electronic systems, including Microsoft Office 365
- Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable invoice processing
- General Ledger/Journal transactions
- Advanced Financials (finance software) maintenance
- Debt recovery
- Assisting with the processing of Pensioners and Staff Payroll
- Maintaining general admin tasks, such as dealing with incoming and outgoing emails
- Developing knowledge of the different departments within the Authority
- Assisting with research and identification of customer (internal) requirements
- Helping to prepare reports, documents, data and other information
- Provide service support as required
- Helping to maintain relevant systems
- Establish working relationships with key stakeholders across internal departments
- Assist answering the telephones and successful transition of meetings to colleagues when required
- General administration including filing, compiling information packs etc
- Any other duties as requested by the placement supervisor, which will assist the apprentice to achieve the requirements of the apprentice standard

Course contents
- Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
- Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
- Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
- Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
- Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
- Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
- Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
- Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
- Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:

About this company
We are a Local Government Authority whose sole responsibility is managing the South Yorkshire Pension Fund. The South Yorkshire Pension Fund is the Local Government Pension Scheme for South Yorkshire. The post of Finance Apprentice will fall into the Finance Team at South Yorkshire Pensions Authority.
After this apprenticeship
- For the right candidate we would be looking to continue the apprenticeship on to Level 4
- We are unable to guarantee a permanent role following Level 4 due to the Finance Team being relatively small by Local Government standards, but the opportunities to develop skills and knowledge will allow the candidate to pursue a job within the public sector
