Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join our inclusive team. The role includes helping teachers prepare lesson materials and equipment, getting the classroom ready for lessons and clearing away afterward and work with groups and individual pupils to make sure they understand their work and stay focussed.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

General duties including: 

  • You will develop skills, knowledge, and experience working within the education
  • Underpinning theories and philosophical approaches to how children learn and develop
  • The importance of children’s holistic development i.e., speech, language, communication, etc.
  • Safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Help teachers prepare lesson materials and equipment
  • Get the classroom ready for lessons and clear away afterward
  • Work with groups and individual pupils to make sure they understand their work and stay focussed
  • Watch, record, and report pupils' progress to teachers
  • Please note you will also be working with learners with SEND needs

  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.

  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Your training plan

Training will be at Doncaster College where you will access a wide range of facilities on offer. 

  • Day release 
  • You will undertake Teaching Assistant Level 3 standard.

  • You will undertake Functional Skills for English and/or maths if needed.
  • You will undertake both on and off the training by a team of industry qualified professionals to give you the best skills, knowledge, and experience

GCSE in:

  • Maths and English (grade 4)

You must be able to travel to and from work and college. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that's part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
